What to Look for in a Bread Maker

Here are a handful of things to consider when deciding on a bread maker.

The different bake programmes for bread, dough, pizza dough and cake. Speciality dough programmes for rye bread and gluten free bread on newer models.
Automatic fruit and nut dispense, without this requires listening out for the buzzer or beeper to open and drop the extra ingredients manually part way through the kneading cycle.
Fast bake or Rapid bake programme lets you bake an optimum loaf in less than 2 hours.
Loaf sizes and weight of bread, smaller bread makers make only one to two loaf sizes. Bigger break makers let you set between 3 to 5 different sizes.
Crust settings, there are typically 3 settings depending on how dark you wish to have your loaf of bread; light, medium and dark
Delay timer 12 hours pretty standard and some comes bread maker also comes with 1 hour keep warm function
Dimensions, check the size before you buy. Bread makers are normally big and heavy so we would not recommend moving to storage when not in use. You will need space on the counter top for this.
New convection feature with built-in fan to circulate the warm air for more even baking
New feature fold away or easily removable paddle gives you the option to remove paddle with a paddle removal tool so it doesn’t leave a hole at the bottom of the bread
New compote and jam programmes to make your own jam at home. This is usually part of the programme settings.

Other features such as internal light and viewing window while great are just nice to have. If you are going to use a pre-set programme, you would leave it to do its own thing. If you are going to use the delay timer and go to sleep to wake up in their morning for a ready loaf, then the viewing window is redundant.
