10 Heartfelt Free Gifts for your Amazing Mum
Once a mom, always a mom.
Whether you are a puny child of eight or a fully-grown man of 40 with an intimidating moustache, you will always be a little baby in your mom’s eyes. Take me for example. I am a fairly successful woman in her mid-20s with a career and a kid of her own. Yet, my mother never stops being ‘mom’ to me.
Did you eat lunch on time today?
Have you fed your son?
Why isn’t your hair properly combed?
Are you wearing a coat? It’s cold outside.
I’ll make you some chicken broth. It will cure your sore throat in no time.
The list is never ending.
Most of the time, I find her questions annoying and suggestions pestering. However, there are times when I realize just how important she is to me and how much I take her love and care for granted.
When I am down with a bad bout of flu or panicking because my infant fell, I turn to my mom for comfort and advice. She is always there for me. Even when she is ill, she always puts her children and family first.
Yes, moms are amazing like that.
They make numerous sacrifices for the sake of their families, work hard, day and night to give the best to their children, kiss away the tears, fears, and pain, and spend countless nights awake. A mother’s love for her child is beyond measure.
With Mother’s Day just around the corner, it is high time we show our moms what they mean to us. Rather than buying a box of chocolates and a random scarf from a store, make her something yourself that she will cherish forever. A meaningful gift bursting with love and all your best wishes will delight her no end.
Here are a few heartfelt gifts you can give to your mom for free!

2. Conjure Up a Movie Night
Movie nights with my mom are one of the best childhood memories, I have. I remember the scent of freshly popped popcorn, cuddled up with my mom and siblings on the couch, the tears shed while watching The Lion King or singing along to ‘supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ in our high-pitched voices as we watched Mary Poppins.
Those memories never fail to warm my heart. If you have similar childhood experiences, get together with your dad and siblings, and plan a fantastic movie night for your mom on Mother’s Day. She is going to love it!
3. Create a Personalised Album
Use your most treasured pictures with your mom and create a customised photo album for her. Right from the time when you were babbling baby to your recent ones, let her take a trip down a memory lane along with you.
You need to get your hands on a scrapbook, glue, and a drawer full of photos. To make it unique and personalized, you can jot down your thoughts on each picture. For example, I gave my mom a photo album a few years ago. On each page, I stuck a note or some memorabilia. She was so pleased to see a sea-shell I collected with her on a trip to the beach.
4. A Book of Favours
From doing laundry to running errands, moms work day and night without uttering a single complaint. How about giving our moms some time off this Mother’s Day or whenever she needs it? Make her a book of little favours.
Include different handmade coupons such as:
- breakfast in bed
- it is time to have tea and cookies
- a weekend to yourself
- a one-on-one tutorial on how to use Facebook or any other tech lesson she may want
- a night out with friends
- a home cooked meal. including washing up
Thoughtful and refreshing, it is a perfect gift for a mom who often forgets about herself, which is probably all of our moms.
5. Revamp Her Kitchen
Once my brother had this epiphany to redecorate my mom’s kitchen. I was sure it was going to be a big flop because the idea was from a guy who had no idea whatsoever about kitchens and what it may mean to the owner.
I was certain that our mom was going to freak out big time. But the stubborn boy just would not budge, and we ended up upgrading little things in her kitchenette.
We labeled her spices and herbs, placed potted plants on the window sill, hung a new wall clock, washed the curtains and mats, organized the cabinets, and placed some framed paintings on the wall. Even though we confused Rosemary with Thyme, she loved what we did, and I must admit, the overall result was pretty neat.
6. Organize a Home Spa Day
Every mom deserves to be pampered and Spa days are one of the best ways moms and daughters can reconnect. This Mother’s Day, refresh her spirit and allow her to indulge by throwing her a home spa day.
First, scrub her bathroom clean. Second, set it up! Light up lavender-scented candles, collect her favourite bath bombs and soaps, sprinkle petals of flowers and don’t forget to place fresh towels and bathrobes. Give her a warm honey facial, hand massage and a pedicure. Offer her a smoothie or even champagne, while she relaxes.
Afterwards, you can even give her a makeover and a blow-dry for her hair.
7. Make Her a Meal
Don’t be scared of burning down the kitchen. Pluck up some courage, pick one of your grandma’s secret recipes, and get going!
Once the food is ready, set the table up, as if it is a Michelin-starred restaurant. Shiny cutlery, scented candles and table mats are essential. Even if your lasagna is soggy or chicken wings burnt, your mother will absolutely adore what you did for her.
8. A Cupcake Bouquet
A cupcake bouquet is a gorgeous gift to make your mom. It’s not just pretty but edible too. Simply bake cupcakes and arrange them in a bouquet along with some edible flowers and berries. It really is that simple.
- Take a flower vase or a pot and build a base with a Styrofoam ball and hot glue.
- Stick 6 printed paper cups cut in half to the Styrofoam base.
- Once the glue has dried, insert a toothpick in each paper cup.
- Place frosted cupcakes into the cups.
- Fill the void spaces around the cupcakes with strawberries and edible flowers with the help of toothpicks.
- Stick a bow on the vase.
- Present it to your mom and enjoy the look of awe on her face.
Don’t forget to sprinkle some icing sugar to dust your cupcake bouquet and make it look extra special!

9. Technology Guide
Initially, my mom used to struggle with smartphones and laptops. Now she is a Photoshop expert and even runs her own online business. I can’t take any credit because she learned everything herself.
Nevertheless, I wish I had helped her out a little. If your mom yearns to watch movies on Netflix or use Facebook properly, don’t shrug her off. Instead, spend some time with her teach her patiently until she knows her way around the Internet.
She has taught us all our lives. A little time spent helping her, would be a tremendous gesture.
10. A Thank You Letter and a Hug
If you are not able to come up with a gift, especially if you happen to live far away from your mom, a heart-felt handwritten thank you note would more than suffice. Write a letter to let her know how much you love her and what she means to you.
Don’t shy away from expressing your gratitude and feelings. Hug her tight and give her a kiss. No one can replace your mom. Love her, respect her, and cherish her.
It doesn’t take a lot of effort to create something special for your mom on Mother’s Day or any other day for that matter. And when you see the look of pure joy on your mother’s face, you will be glad that you made the effort.
