It will even deal with human and pet hair and include smart features such as room mapping, combination of edge, spot and random cleaning and works on both hard or carpeted floors.

Some models even feature remote access via app for notifications and reporting as well as manual control and scheduling. Later versions include support for voice control via a smart speaker. Use Alexa voice service or Google AI assistant and related skills to control your robot vacuum.

We got the Eufy BoostIQ Robovac 30C and we are hooked. This little gadget helps free up hours of cleaning time and can be set to run on a daily basis even remotely when you are out. But what else is out there and how does it compare to the competition.

In this article, we look at the affordable Eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 30C and other units from its competitors. We also arranged these capable alternatives in a price range from affordable to splurge.

1. Eufy BoostIQ Robovac 30C – AFFORDABLE

To be honest, the biggest selling point for us was the price. Having gotten the Eufy RoboVac 30C during a sale saved us around 15% off its normal retail price. At this price point, it doesn’t scan or map the room before starting work methodically but just sense its way and sometimes bumps around until the rooms are cleaned. It then returns to the charging base all by itself until the next schedule clean.

Our unit came with no-go magnetic tapes so you can apply them to stop the robot vacuum from going to places it shouldn’t have such as the fire place or children’s play room. This effectively creates a border to keep the unit working within its boundaries.

It also comes with a remote but the best way to control it is with Alexa. Simply ask the unit to start or stop cleaning and return to charging base via voice. You can then use the remote to manually direct it to specific rooms if you want. We used it on rugs and hard floor and were astonished with the result.

We have made robot vacuum cleaning our hobby. It is so satisfying when you find a lot of debris, dust and hair after each cleaning session. To keep the robot vacuum running efficiently, we recommend emptying the dust bin often, as often as once a day.

We use a cordless handheld vacuum to quickly clean the filters and bin as well as around the sensors and wheels. Give the whole unit a quick wipe at least once a week to clear out the dust and keep it looking spotlessly clean.

Even with scheduled daily clean, it manages to fill up its dustin and pick up hair on its brushes religiously. This means we have to empty it every time after its cleaning session, a small price to pay given the time save physically going around the house cleaning. After cleaning, it goes around randomly looking for the charging base until it picks up and align to the signal from the base.

2. Eufy RoboVac 15C – SUPER SAVER

The RoboVac 15C is a cut down version of the 30C. It has slightly less powerful suction at up to 1300Pa compared to 1500Pa on the 30C. Still it features WiFi connectivity for EufyHome app support and is Alexa compatible. In fact, they look identical in size and design. The super slim robot vacuum is only 2.85-inch tall and has a runtime of up to 100 minutes before returning to charging base. The 0.6 litre dust bin is not the biggest but enough to store dust and debris picked up by the triple filtered suction.

For optimum performance, the vacuum is suitable for use on low to medium-pile carpets, tile, laminated, and hardwood floors. Like the 30C it also features BoostIQ technology that automatically increases suction power within 1.5 seconds when extra vacuuming strength is needed for deeper clean especially on carpets. Apart from the different suction power, it does not come with boundary tapes.

Use the app to schedule routine cleaning, setting different times, seven days a week or take full control and set it to clean manually. The app also serves to notify you when the bin is full or the sensor needs cleaning or for some reason it is stuck. A physical infrared remote is included for direct access to the cleaning functions.

Infrared technology is also deployed to good use for collision avoidance. Three drop sensors are found beneath the unit to stop the vacuum cleaner from tumbling down the stairs. The 100 minutes cleaning time is more than sufficient for a three bedroom house.

A model with more powerful suction is available. The Eufy BoostIQ Robovac 15C Max has the strongest suction of all robot vacuums from Eufy at 2000Pa.

3. RoboRock S5 – MID-RANGE

Navigation is key in a robot vacuum for optimum cleaning. You don’t want a unit that goes over the same place all the time and ignore other areas. The RoboRock does a good job ensuring that all areas are cleaned in a very logical way.

Once it has the rooms mapped, you can set no-go zones or set it to clean only certain rooms. Using the Mi Home app, you can also schedule it to clean multiple times a day with option to set different suction levels thereby increasing or reducing the noise level for when you are away or in Balanced, Turbo or Max mode for cleaning for up to 2000Pa suction. Other modes include Carpet, Quiet or Mopping.

What the RoboRock does that other robots here don’t is mopping. When activated synchronous sweeping and mopping allows the unit to suck up all the dust and then have the mopping system clean the floor after it. The combined cleaning leaves no water streak or stain for a once over thorough cleaning.

When using the mopping function only set it to clean zones or room where there are no rugs or carpets. Only hard floor and preferably tiles. For each room, it will never ran out of water from the attached water tank. But, it will need refilling after each zone was finished. Chances are if you set it to clean the same zone more than once, say three times for a deeper clean, you are likely to have to manually change the water and clean the mopping pad.

When you set it to clean, it first performs edge cleaning and then work itself towards the centre of the room. It may be overzealous in navigating near obstacles, corners and edges that sometimes you think if these areas are clean enough.

4. Neato BotVac D7 – MID-RANGE

This laser guided robot vacuum from Neato is the company’s flagship robot vacuum. It uses laser to scan and map the entire house, creating a floor plan that you can view on the app. It is also more efficient than Eufy’s random vacuum in that it moves in straight lines to make sure that all areas in the room are covered.

Once the floor plan of your house is mapped, add virtual no-go lines instead of magnetic strips or IR beacon to stop the robot vacuum from cleaning in certain places. You can add as many as you want and change the rules to suit you. If you have piles of clothes, children’s toys or pet’s feeding area, add no-go zone around them.

If the BotVac D7 gets stuck, not only will it notify you but show on the map where it is stuck.

What is unique to Neato BotVac D7 or any BotVac (D4 and D6) for that matter is its D-shape design. Unlike other round robot vacuums featured here, the Neato Robot Vacuum’s D shape gives it the advantage of reaching into corners. The horizontal front section houses a 10.9-inch brush while other robots have a shorter main brush between the wheels and one or two circular brushes to push the dust to the middle.

5. iRobot Roomba i7 – SPLURGE

The most expensive robot vacuum in our line-up, the Roomba i7 from iRobot is one of the best robot vacuums in the market. It not only go around with a bunch of sensors to avoid obstacles and wall but maps the rooms and stores this in the memory. Using the app, you can then name the rooms and ask it to clean individual rooms separately.

The Roomba i7 uses two rubber brushes one to loosen the dirt and the other to pick it up.

Cleaning performance is what you would expect from iRobot. It will go from hard floor to carpet with no quips and cleans really well. So much so that you will need to empty the dust bin often.

If money is not an issue, go for the bigger Roomba i7 plus for a separate dust bin that lets the robot empties its onboard bin automatically.
